Springy, Outdoor Backyard BBQ Wedding in Western PA

Kim + Randy’s wedding this May was a super fun, laid-back, and heartfelt celebration. Filled with sweet DIY details, endless margs, KILLER barbecue, a guest appearance by a very good boy, and throwback 2000s bops, K + R’s day had everyone feeling less like a wedding guest and more like you were at a cookout with your favorite people! (I also shot some bonus Super 8 footage as a gift, which you can watch in the video above!!)

When the AM team first arrived to Smith Farms, we were greeted with leftover April showers + some seriously CUTE decor (all DIY-ed incredibly by Kim). Classic white + green florals with the occasional springy pastel pop, hand-painted table numbers, cheesecloth runners, and string lights perfectly complemented the rustic wooden interior of the reception space. It was the perfect combination of vibrant and cozy.

Before long, we were taking solo portraits for Randy, whose dark blue suit was perfect for the spring. He also had to get in some suspender action, which I couldn’t blame him for. Finally, Kim + her bridesmaids arrived! I hitched a ride with her and Alyssa from Alyssa Michelle Videography on a golf cart to take her portraits in a secluded spot (and hide her before the ceremony). Kim looked AMAZING. Her dress (from One White Lane) with botanical-inspired lace details looked ethereal against the open-field backdrop of Smith Farms.

Right from our first chat, Kim told me that they were planning on a smaller, private ceremony and a larger reception. When the ceremony began, the sun came out, and about 30 of K + R’s closest family and friends gathered to support them – including their pup, Wesson! He was super excited to see his mom and dad at the altar.

After a few family portraits, we gathered together the wedding party to celebrate the newlyweds!! I LOVED the assortment of springy colors + patterns worn by the bridesmaids, which went perfectly with the day’s decor. Of course, just like most barbecues, some Miller Lites made an appearance 😉

After dismissing the wedding party to cocktail hour, Kim + Randy finally got to spend some alone time together. After giving some love to Wesson, they frolicked on the outskirts of Smith Farms and basked together in their newlywed glow. You can seriously feel the joy oozing from these photos :’)

As more guests arrived and joined in the reception, they enjoyed K + R’s signature cocktails (an Irish mule and margarita, crafted by Anthony Bartending), a delicious charcuterie spread, and an audio guestbook (super popular right now – for good reason!). However, the biggest hit with guests were the disposable cameras!! The reception officially began with a highlight video of the ceremony that happened an hour before – edited with lighting speed by Alyssa!! – played for guests on a projector. The newlyweds made an explosive entrance after, followed by a sweet first dance to “In Your Love” by Tyler Childers (great song choice, IMO).

After a bangin’ BBQ buffet, Kim + Randy cut their cake – a chocolate chip COOKIE cake – which was the perfect compliment for their elaborate, well-stocked cookie table. As the drinks were flowing and the night went on, guests got down to funky 70s jams, belted along to “Drops of Jupiter”, and dropped it low to T-Pain after the sun went down. Kim + Randy’s day made the BEST start to my 2025 wedding season, and I’m so happy that I was able to be a part of it 🙂
